Everyone needs a second chance at some point:

  • a chance to sort out relationships that have gone wrong
  • a chance to deal with bad habits and addictions
  • a chance to increase our knowledge and skills to improve our future
  • a chance to find and know the love of Jesus in our lives
  • a chance to help others
  • a chance to make new friendships

All these 'second chance' opportunities and more form part of the work of the Second Chance Charity Shop and Coffee Shop on Boston Road in Sleaford Lincolnshire.

This registered charity provides a second hand clothes shop  and dress agency and also a cosy, friendly coffee shop where tea and coffee, home made cakes, soups, jackets, paninis and much more are provided at very reasonable prices.

Yet the shop and coffee shop have a much wider purpose than serving the people at Sleaford.  The mission of Second Chance is to raise money in order to give many others a badly needed second chance.  Currently the shop supports:

  • Education for Life, a Christian organisation in Mombasa, Kenya, who run an orphanage, a feeding programme for 800 needy children every day, and small businesses to help the people support themselves and their families
  • Betel of Britain, a drug rehabilitation group
  • Teen Challenge, Romania – finance is going towards building a girls house for those who currently live on the streets and sewers.

Amazingly in just over two years of operation in Sleaford over £23,000 has already been given to these organisations.

Charities

The Second Chance vision is not confined to Sleaford.  The organisers Sue Eddowes and Tracey Godber began developing this work on the Costa Blanca in Spain where there are shops at Albir, Alfaz del Pi and Finestrat.

Could you become part of this Second Chance team?  Not only would you be helping raise money to give others the second chance they need, but you would also be part of a team of great people, develop friendships and have the opportunity to learn the skills of running a business.

Second Chance is an integral part of New Life Church Ministries, a Christian Pentecostal Church, that aims to help people know that we all need a second chance in our lives in order to sort out the things we have got wrong and that chance is found in the love that Jesus showed to everyone when He died on the cross for all of us.

SECOND CHANCE IN SPAIN

Our aim is to go and make disciples of all nations and to be His witnesses locally, and to the ends of the earth.  By means of Charity Shops we offer an opportunity for people to give either goods to sell or to help themselves to help, buy, or to be involved in the social side of Second Chance. Everything on sale in our shops is being given a "second chance" and people can find bargains from the second hand clothes and bric-a-brac, BUT the main aim of this Mission is for people to find a 'second chance' in their lives which will lead them to salvation through Jesus Christ. Hundreds of people visit our shops every week and there are around 40 helpers involved in the day to day running of the three shops in this area, only a small percentage are Christian. The various events that we organise - fashion shows, socials, quizzes etc. - bring us into contact with even more people and makes this Mission an ideal place for bringing people into contact with Christians and provides an open door for evangelism.

  • To the Churches we offer a cost free site in the market place to meet people, to advertise their meetings and give invitations to special events. It is an ideal training ground fro both business and evangelism.
  • To the individual Christian we give an opportunity for friendship evangelism and practical work for the Lord in helping to resource Missions.
  • To the man/woman in the street we are a "good work" to support because we send money off to the poor; a place to make friends, learn new skills and get back into the swing of working again.

In Spain 15,000 people live in towns, villages and districts where there is no evangelical church. There are almost as many active Jehovah's Witnesses as Protestant Church members and the Mormons are doubling there numbers every five years. There are an estimated 300 cults - 30 being Satanists, and 300,000 heroin and cocaine addicts with 100,000 carrying the HIV/AIDS virus, more than any other European country. We are looking forward to the opportunity of opening new shops and working with other Churches and groups in Spain, the UK and the other countries. This can only happen when others join us and become part of the team. COULD THIS BE YOU?
